Jeanell Smith

Family & Consumer Sciences SNAP-Ed Agent

Jeanell has worked with Virginia Cooperative Extension since 2010 and currently serves Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford, Campbell counties, and the City of Lynchburg as the Family & Consumer Sciences SNAP-Ed Agent.

FCS SNAP-Ed agents are USDA funded.  We reach SNAP-eligible youth via train-the-trainer programs. We partner with and train teachers, staff, and a variety of volunteers to deliver youth curricula, reaching youth ages 3 to 18. These curricula include nutrition and physical activity education, as well as, food tastings, cooking instruction, and mindfulness education.

Jeanell is also invloved in policy, systems, and environmental, (PSE) change intiatives.  This PSE work includes serving on community coalitions and partnering with schools, parks and rec, retail stores, famers markets, and food banks to further healthy food access and food security.
